SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Prepress Coordinator position prepares files for print, creates proofs based on artwork and internal information provided through quotes and tickets.. Develops procedures and makes necessary adjustments for color matching.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Prepares files in Illustrator for printing on digital presses (HP)
  • Prepares and sends proofs using esko workflow system
  • Preflights incoming graphics for printability, separation issues, brand color concerns, Pantone® matching, ink sequence and any foreseeable printing issues.
  • Lists any possible printing issues with artwork on proof, provides solutions if any.
  • Reviews incoming artwork to determine if any pre-press rework is required.
  • Works with the HP Indigo press operator(s) on matters involving quality and color. .
  •   Performs color correction to art files for color matching using a spectrophotometer and color refinements to meet customer expectations.
  • Assigns necessary line screening, steps art according to press layout, and performs QC checks on press to ensure accuracy. 
  • Produces color-accurate press  proofs according to customer’s art and press specifications.
  • Meets with customers to discuss any new or upcoming projects.
  • Shares prepress knowledge and techniques as well as job-specific information with Digital Press Operators and other Prepress Coordinators.
  • Works with a team to develop procedures and workflows relevant to the prepress department..
  • Demonstrates appropriate attitude in all dealings with co-workers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Follows quality requirements to meet or exceed expectations.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Preflight artwork to help with estimating and quoting
  • Meet with sales, SSS and customers for customer inquiries
 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Deep and demonstrated working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator,
    using Mac OS. 
  • Strong working knowledge of file conversion, color conversion, imposition (step & repeat and unwind directions), composition, proof and press alignment 
  • Excellent understanding of color management
  • Strong working knowledge of: proof-to-press matching, spectrophotometry, hard proofing and soft proofing 
  • Experience with digital printing on flexible packaging substrates

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferred
  • At least 2 years in prepress, file and/or color profiling and print file preparation
  • Strong working knowledge of digital print processes and DFEs (HP Production Pro and Esko highly considered)
  • Strong working knowledge of Esko Automation Engine, Esko DeskPack plug ins (highly considered) 
  • VDP Smart Stream Designer a plus
  • Strong understanding of printing processes (digital, flexo and gravure highly considered)
  • Trouble shooting/problem solving skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Mostly professional office setting with minimal travel
  • Minimal time on the production floor
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations; wears PPE.
